Scale Out Performance of Your NetApp Environment with Data Virtualization

Intelligent Load Balancing

When configured with DataSphere, a group of NAS filers can be logically pooled together as a scale-out cluster under the global namespace. With its unique metadata engine and out-of-band architecture, DataSphere creates a comprehensive a scale-out NAS solution that tiers data across NetApp volumes, according to their capabilities. For example, hot data might be placed in All-Flash-FAS (AFF), warm data on a Hybrid-FAS, and cold data on StorageGRID Webscale (SGWS). The diagram below illustrates this concept:

In addition to tiering data across NetApp FAS systems, DataSphere accelerates performance through the ability to distribute I/O across multiple volumes, allowing applications to access them all, in parallel. The diagram below illustrates:

Out-of-Band Architecture Delivers Immense Scalability

Using open standards, DataSphere offloads metadata operations off storage, moving them onto the DataSphere server. This separation of the metadata path from the data path enables DataSphere to move data across storage silos and also significantly improve performance, since metadata operations don’t get stuck in the queue behind data operations.
